Karl Stanley, who is close friend to OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, revealed shocking claims about Rush's knowledge of the dangerous nature of their submersible trips to the Titanic remains. In an interview with 60 Minutes Australia, Stanley said that while he continued Rush's pursuit on a venture targeting billionaires, Rush knew the trips would end in disaster but went forward anyway because investors were excited by it. Stanley mentioned the Oceangate submersible as a mousetrap for the billionaires.

During another test dive in 2019, according to this same story from 60 Minutes Australia, technical concerns were raised regarding carbon fiber hulls' pending failure. Nevertheless at least as far as is known during which calls and emails are rushed back and forth between Rush and him over such things as propeller damage, this submersible named Titan imploded during its mission.

In all, there were sixteen people killed in the monstrous sinking: Rush, British explorer Hamish Harding, French submarine expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, Pakistani-British tycoon Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman. Weeks later in the incident after presumed human remains retrieved from mangled debris landing on Titan sub. The hard search–and–recovery operation steered to mangled debris landing in eastern Canada—approximately 1,600 feet from the bow of Titanic.

Stanley’s interview and the revelations surrounding Rush revealing his actions have raised huge questions on whether their venture is safe and based on what motives. So far, it is a tragic lesson which serves to remind us that there are risks involved in deep-sea exploration and hence precautions must be ensured for such undertakings.
