Nuvvaa Nena Review

Nuvva Nena is an apt title.  It is because the director and the actors (almost all the characters in the movie) are competitively brainless here!  While Allari Naresh and Sharwanand act without forethought, only to fall into each other's trap like idiots, Narayana directs as if he was making the film for children.  Shreya, who, we are told, is a brilliant psychiatrist, cannot see through the dishonesty of her handsome patient even though Anand (Sharwa) keeps deriving pleasure from frequently hugging her like a child.  Once she is holidaying, the good doctor starts letting her hair down like a college girl, and her wardrobe is super-forward, complete with trendy chaddis!  Dumbass doctor without decency!

There is a thoughtless comedy track, with Brahmi (as Aaku dada) fantasising lengthy parodies, from Ghajini to Robot, to the point of disgust.  To be sure, his is the only full-length love story in the film.  Avinash (Naresh) is there just to hatch one plan after another to remove the nuisance (Anand) from the scene.  Anand is there to dodge the dangers and pay him back in the same coin.  What does Shriya do?  Nothing.  The Dumbass Doctor is not involved in the story at any point.

Had the director cared to show his script to any audience with common sense, he would have asked him this basic question: Why doesn't Naresh explore the option of exposing Sharwa's true colours and prove that the cunning 'patient' is seeing her even though he is perfectly alright?  Would that not at least serve the purpose of creating a split between Shriya and Sharwa, if not help Naresh in any way?  Naresh does, but once.  And he never tries again after he fails in it.  Once he catches Sharwa on the mobile romancing Vimala Raman, but why does he not pass on the MMS to the doctor?  Like a fool, Naresh asks him to mediate for him, but what purpose does it serve?  Sharwa comes to know of Naresh's true identity (he is a petty thief from Amalapuram posing before the Dumbass Doctor as a multi-millionaire), but he forgets all about it just like Naresh forgets about the sleazy MMS.

The two Ridiculous Romantics never ever confess their feelings to the Dumbass Doctor, but when she calls them up separately asking them to turn up at the registration office tomorrow, they almost die fighting each other to reach the location on time.  Children's film, you see.

The director deserves a National Award for convincing Naresh and Sharwa to do a movie where they have neither a 'gamyam' nor gyan.  All the same, while Sharwa shines through a silly script, Naresh is painfully routine.  He need not do half a dozen movies for the sake of doing them.  Even Dasari won't appreciate him if he acts in films like this!

What about Brahmi?  He is good as a romantic and a painter, and his grimaces and tomfoolery lacks the zing.

Shriya did not need to act.  But, quite thoughtlessly, she tries to act in a couple of scenes, and unwittingly commits the blunder of looking like a soft-spoken Standard VIII girl friend when she was expected to be a doctor.  She evokes the memories of the Shriya of the last decade when she dances with the three Hapless Heroes (Naresh, Sharwa and Brahmi) in songs, but that's all.

The dialogue writer's 'creativity' was curbed by the Censor Board.  Is there a Turkey Award for Cuss Words in our State?  If not, why this desperation to outshine others in penning expletives?  In any case, not a line was intelligent.  Even mediocre children's films have better humour.

The music director gives many inspired tunes and Mani Sharma's background score was okay.

All in all, Nuvva Nena is beyond bad.  It is unnatural, to put it mildly.
