Scores of nurses who had been sitting inside the complex of the Directorate of Medical Services (DMS) in Chennai's Teynampet called off their protest yesterday.  They have also announced they would resume work from Wednesday.

The nurses, appointed on contract basis, had commenced their strike on Monday morning demanding regularization of their duties.  They were sitting inside the DMK complex in Teynampet for the past two days.

In the meantime, allegations of improper arrangement for the protest were made by several quarters stating the place hardly provided security for the female nurses.  There were also frequent complaints of lack of drinking water and sanitary facilities.

After holding talks at the State Secretariat with Health Minister Vijayabhaskar who agreed to meet 90% of their demands, the striking nurses called off their protest late in the night.
