Lyricist Thamarai has requested actor Vijay Sethupathi to opt out of the Muthaiah Muralidaran biopic 800. After widespread opposition against Vijay Sethupathi's decision to act in Muralidaran's biopic, now lyricist Thamarai has written an open letter to Vijay Sethupathi citing that the cricketer is a betrayer of Eelam Tamils.

In her letter, Thamarai has written "Had Muthaiah Muralidaran been only a cricketer and an achiever, it wouldn't be problem making his life as a movie. Even when his playing in the Sri Lankan team was criticised LTTE's chief Velupillai Prabhakaran had said not to hinder him from playing cricket and consider as one of their boys playing the game. It is understandable that Muralidaran had to embrace the Sinhalese lifestyle but he also became a Sinhalese politician and a speaker on behalf of Rajapakse who was killing Tamils. When Tamil blood was spilled on Mullivaikkal, he said it was a good day. He called the lamenting of Tamil mothers searching their lost children as drama. How a professional actor like you fail to understand that he is playing a role in a drama staged by Sri Lankan government to hide the genocide?"

Thamarai further wrote requesting Vijay Sethupathi to do the biopic of Prabhakaran, "Ettappan did a small task, but we know why his name is being used till date. Shouldn't we think that your name shouldn't become similar? Muralidaran is a spit in history, and we must not let it fall on us. Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi, take a good decision, the Tamils of the world are with us. Your facial features match better with another person. Take that role and act and history will celebrate you. The day when Prabhakaran's life becomes a biopic isn't far away, I have posted the picture, stand before the mirror and begin your preparation."
