Noose tightens on Dinakaran in EC bribery case; may go to prison soon

The noose has tightened around Dinakaran in the Election Commission bribery case as his name has been included in the detailed charge-sheet prepared by the Delhi Police which is conducting investigations in the case relating to Dinakaran’s alleged attempt through broker Sukesh in getting the EC to allot the ‘Two-Leaves’ symbol to his faction. It is a different issue that he now stands isolated from the party.

The police, which traced calls made to Bangalore-based Sukesh’s mobile by Dinakaran, have reportedly confirmed that it was indeed Dinakaran’s voice which asked Sukesh to establish ‘contacts’ at Election Commission’s New Delhi office to get the ‘Two-Leaves’ symbol allotted do the then EPS faction of the AIADMK.  The EPS and OPS factions have since merged to form the unified AIADMK sans Dinakaran.

It may be recalled that Sukesh, who was paid an advance of Rs.10 crores to do the ‘job’, was arrested in April this year. Dinakarans’ arrest followed a fortnight later after which he was lodged at the Tihar Jail in the national capital.  He, however, was granted bail after 42 days. Delhi Police now says that they haven’t yet filed the charge-sheet in the case and added that Dinakaran can’t be absolved as ‘innocent’ in the case.

Charge-sheets involving Dinakaran and four others’ names would soon be filed with the Court, Delhi police sources said. If Dinakaran is arrested in a week’s time, it might spell the ‘end’ of his political career, critics point out.
