Tamil Nadu deputy chief-minister O. Panneerselvam has kicked off a huge controversy by stating that non-stop critics (of Government) might eventually become mentally imbalanced individuals.
Along with chief-minister Edapadi K. Palaniswami, OPS was taking part at the foundation stone-laying ceremony held in Chennai to commence the construction a 660 mega-watt thermal power plant at Udankudi in Tuticorin District. Ministers Thangamani and Sengottaiyan were also present at the ceremony held via video-conferencing mode at Kalaivanar Arangam on Wallajah Road in Chennai.
Speaking on the occasion, OPS credited former chief-minister J. Jayalalithaa for having transformed the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) from a desperate situation into a scenario wherein the State had even started supplying power to other States after taking care of its own needs. “It was Jayalalithaa who was responsible in transforming the dark Tamil Nadu into a State which produced excess power,” he said.
“Puratchithalaivi Jayalalithaa was always keen to ensure that the State didn’t go dark for want of electricity,” OPS praised the late leader. “Tamil Nadu has become a self-sufficient manufacturer in producing the 15,000 mega-watt it required per annum and has even started supplying power to other States. Those who continue to criticize the Govt. might eventually become mentally imbalanced,” OPS concluded.
