Abhijit Banerjee, the Inda-born economist who recently won the Nobel Prize in Economics along with his wife and one more economist, today called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The duo had a one-on-one interaction.
"Excellent meeting with Nobel Laureate Abhijit Banerjee. His passion towards human empowerment is clearly visible. We had a healthy and extensive interaction on various subjects. India is proud of his accomplishments. Wishing him the very best for his future endeavours," Modi said after the meeting.
Banerjee hasn't been positive about the state of the Indian economy. He has also said that there has been too much of over-centralization under Modi. As per him, bureaucrats are too scared to make decisions because they fear punishment if something goes wrong. Guess Banerjee spoke to Modi about all this during the interaction!
