With a section of the media indulging in speculations that cinema halls will be locked down in Telangana once again, Cinematography Minister T Srinivas Yadav on Wednesday said that no such plans are afoot. He indicated that the government will not be closing down theatres despite the rise in cases.
"Last year, the Telugu film industry suffered colossal losses due to the pandemic. Thousands of people lost their livelihoods despite the government coming up with some measures to help the industry. There are rumours that cinema halls will not be allowed to operate. These are false rumours and it's urged of everyone not to heed to them," Yadav said.
The Minister added that theatres will be allowed to operate with Covid-19 guidelines in place.
His timely statement comes as a huge relief for exhibitors, distributors and producers. Ahead of the release of big-ticket movies such as 'Vakeel Saab', the stakeholders need a predictable environment. By putting the record straight just in time, Yadav has done the right thing.
