'No One Killed Jessica' has emerged as a clean hit. After taking a good opening at the box office over the weekend, the film stayed on to be stable during the weekdays as well, hence ensuring that the momentum continued right into the second weekend as well. The first week of this Rajkumar Gupta film boasts of 20 crores coming in which is fantastic considering the fact that the film had a docudrama feel to it. The second weekend has done well as well despite masses thronging on to 'Yamla Pagla Deewana'.
While 30 crores mark would be crossed by the time the third weekend ends, it would be interesting to see how far does the film progress with another multiplex-friendly film, 'Dhobhi Ghat', arriving alongside. However, regardless of whether this Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherhee starrer manages to stay afloat post the release of this art-house cinema by Aamir Khan, the fact remains that 'No One Killed Jessica' is a good hit and all set to find a very good (continued) audience for itself on satellite and home video. More power to such cinema.
'Ashoka The Hero', 'Impatient Vivek' and 'Vikalp' have turned out to be disasters though with the combined collections of these films refusing to cross the 1 crore mark. The film which has managed to score on a continuous note though is 'Band Baaja Baaraat'. The film was strong even in it's fifth week (at the limited screens on which it is showing) which reflects the strong patronage that this directorial debut by Maneesh Sharma is still enjoying. With over 1.5 crores more coming in, the film has now collected 22 crores at the box office and is a hit.
However this is not where the film's journey ends. While it would be interesting to see if the film crosses the 25 crores mark, 'Band Baaja Baaraat' is all set to enjoy a cult following for itself on satellite and home video in years to come. Anushka Sharma has emerged as a talent to be nurtured while Ranveer Singh is the leading man to watch out for.
