M.K. Stalin, the Leader of the Opposition in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and who is also the DMK’s working president, has urged Govt. of Tamil Nadu not to ‘give in’ to the BJP’s arm-twisting tactics by agreeing to rename the ‘Tamil Nadu Illam’ in New Delhi as ‘Podhigai Illam’.
Anna, the leader who is celebrated by both the AIADMK and the DMK, had proposed the name of ‘Tamil Nadu Illam’ whose name has since been changed by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu which changed the name of its State Guest House to ‘Podhigai Illam’ and even issued a gazette notification finalizing the change in the name of the guest house.
Political parties in the State have reacted sharply to the Govt. of Tamil Nadu’s decision to change the name of the State Guest House in the national capital.
“The AIADMK-led minority Govt. in the State shouldn’t consider itself as a puppet in the BJP’s hands. It shouldn’t aid the BJP’s plans to change the name of the State Guest House. It is indeed painful to note that the State Govt. is doing everything at the BJP’s behest. The Guest House is the symbol of the achievements of the Dravidian movements and its name shouldn’t be tampered with,” Stalin said.
