Muharram procession, every year, takes place on a huge scale in Hyderabad. But people from the Muslim communities gather on the streets of the old city to be part of the festival. But this year, there will be no Muharram procession in the city. Well, this is not what we say but Telangana High Court itself has said on Wednesday. The Muharram rituals that happen inside the masjid are allowed, however.

Keeping the huge spike in COVID positive cases in Telangana, the High Court has given the judgment for the safety of all.

Justice T Vinod Kumar cited Supreme Court judgment while dismissing a petition by Fathima Sevadal Society seeking directions to Hyderabad police commissioner to accord permission to carry out the procession with an elephant on August 31.

The High Court even refused to hear another petition which was seeking permission to carry the alam by an individual as far as Chadarghat under police protection till the plea was numbered and posted for hearing. Also, it has said that people have to plan accordingly.
