The so called "haunted houses " in Demonte colony near Alwarpet were demolished by Chennai corporation. The place which was speculated to be haunted also inspired a Tamil film by the same name. Several malpractices with respect to handling the property irked the neighborhood residents to file multiple complaints.

The governing body is yet to receive any confirmation on whether the place will be reconstructed as its believed that the Portuguese business man left behind the property to charity and poor. The place has been continuously in the news for several years with this recent flick basking on the haunting stories from the neighborhood.

Sources from Catholic community reveal that a decision on reconstruction is on early stages and the land will be used to help the poor and needy.
