The Government has introduced a Reservation Bill to amend the Constitution in Lok Sabha. It's meant to provide 10 percent quota in jobs and education sector for General Category, which includes the unreserved category in all religions.

Here are some of the key highlights of the Bill:

1. No income parameter finds mention. It's up to States to decide the upper limit.

2. As expected, the quota will apply to private educational institutions as well. Both aided and unaided institutions will be included. Minority institutions are excluded.

3. States are free to determine which all sections fall in the General category.

The Bill was introduced amid some pandemonium on the part of the SP. Its MP Ram Gopal Yadav said that OBCs should get 54 percent quota proportionate to their population.
