The Supreme Court has on Thursday rejected an appeal of the former Union Minister P Chidambaram against the Delhi High Court’s recent order that rejected his anticipatory bail plea in the INX Media case. The money laundering and corruption case has been pursued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI.
“Granting anticipatory bail at the initial stage may frustrate the investigation. It’s not a fit case to grant a bail. Economic offences stand on a different footing and it has to be dealt with a different approach," the SC said.
Following this, the Congress leader withdrew his appeal from the apex court challenging a trial court’s order of sending him to CBI custody.
