Rajeev Ravi-Nivin Pauly's ambitious movie ‘Thuramukham', is finally heading to the theatres! The much-delayed film which was slated to hit the theatres on December 24, has been pushed to January 20, 2022. Taking to his social media handle, Nivin Pauly announced the new release date. “People’s voice cannot be silenced! The rebellion is set to begin. Thuramukham, releasing on January 20, 2022, in theatres near you,” Nivin Pauly wrote, sharing a glimpse from the film. The movie is locking horns with Tovino's much-awaited project 'Minnal Murali', helmed by Basil Joseph. However, Minnal Murali will premiere on Netflix.
Thuramukham is based on workers' struggle against the 'Chappa' system, which was widely practiced at the Mattancherry harbor in Kochi, in the 1940s and 50s. The movie's screenplay is by Gopan Chidambaram, son of KN Chidambaram. The movie will mark the comeback of Rajeev Ravi after a gap of five years. His last movie as a director was the critically acclaimed super hit Kammatti Paadam (2016) starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role. For Thuramukham, Rajeev Ravi has doubled up as the cinematographer. Produced by Sukumar Thekkepat under the banner Thekkepat Films, the movie had its world premiere at the prestigious International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR).
