Nimisha Sajayan, the Kerala State Film Award-winning actress appears as the female lead opposite Nivin Pauly in the movie. 'Thuramukham' is based on workers' struggle against the 'Chappa' system, which was widely practiced at the Mattancherry harbor in Kochi, in the 1940s and 50s. The movie's screenplay is by Gopan Chidambaram, son of KN Chidambaram. The movie will mark the comeback of Rajeev Ravi after a gap of five years. His last movie as a director was the critically acclaimed super hit Kammatti Paadam (2016) starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role. For Thuramukham, Rajeev Ravi has doubled up as the cinematographer. Produced by Sukumar Thekkepat under the banner Thekkepat Films, the movie had its world premiere at the prestigious International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR).
