Nithiin awaits the release of 'Bheeshma' on February 21. Ahead of its release, the actor talks about its content, what to expect from it, his upcoming movies, remaking a Bollywood classic, how he sees failures, his marriage in April and more.
Getting married to Shalini
Engagement will take place on April 15. Marriage will be held on April 16 in Dubai. I met Shalini years ago through a common friend. We got along well and fell in love with each other. My and her parents agreed to our marriage immediately. Our alliance was stitched last year. Yes, nothing got leaked to the media even though we have been in a relationship for years.
Post my marriage, I will be hosting a grand party in Hyderabad. For many years, I was not mentally ready for marriage. I am the same person before and after love.
'Bheeshma' got delayed
Venky Kudumula came to me to narrate 'Bheeshma' during the making of 'Srinivasa Kalyanam'. I gave a nod only after the entire script was ready. In the meantime, a few projects (like the 'Andha Dhun' remake and 'Rang De' with Venky Atluri) got finalized.
Full-on entertainer
'Bheeshma' is my first full-on comedy and action entertainer since 'Dil'. There is a love story and the element of organic farming as well. The film is more about romance than the organics element.
A few highlights of the movie
I am a meme maker in the movie and my character blurts out funny one-liners. There is a superb fight in the second half and its choreography has been inspired by a fight in 'Athadu'. The dance choreography in 'Whattey Beauty' will be another major highlight.
Balancing it out
I am not bored with love stories. There definitely is an urge to try different roles. Krishna Chaitanya's 'Power Peta' and Chandrasekhar Yeleti's movie will be completely different from what I have tried so far. Before 'Ishq', I had issues with making the right judgement. Since then, I have been fine, by and large. I am now balancing between commercial and experimental cinema.
A taxing phase
I take failures in my stride. I thought 'LIE' would definitely work. 'Srinivasa Kalyanam' didn't quite inspire my confidence although I liked its concept. As feared, it flopped. Doing three films simultaneously has been quite challenging. This is going to be my last such attempt in my career. It has been physically taxing.
A bold remake
Remaking 'Andha Dhun', which is considered a classic, is definitely a big risk. But I want to take it as a challenge and go for it. The fact that it won the National Award makes it all the more challenging. It will be directed by Merlapaka Gandhi.
About 'Power Peta'
The story of 'Power Peta' starts in 1960s. My character enters in the 1990s. I will be seen as a 20-years-old, 40-years-old and 60-years-old in the movie. It will be shot from August.
References to Power Star
One or the other reference to Pawan Kalyan garu or his movies has always been there since 'Jayam'. Because the media was not this rampant back then, not many used to make a fuss about it.
Have had a second chance
I am often referred to as a young hero despite the fact that I debuted more than 17 years ago. I feel good about it, though. Before 'Ishq', I delivered 12 flops in a row. The audience have given me a second chance and I am glad. With 'Bheeshma' and the following films, I will further reinvent myself. The prospect of failure is always scary but what matters is that I have to do my work.
