Mumbai escapes with minimum damage after Nisarga cyclone landfall

The Nisarga storm only the second in seventy years to have landfall around Mumbai crossed the shores today and according to the IMD the worst is over and the capital city escaped with minimal damages so far.  The landfall was at Maharashtra coast close to the south of Alibaug which is 100 km away from Mumbai with a maximum speed 00-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph between 1230-1430 hrs today.

Most of the calls that the coporation got were about trees uprooted and one person a 58 year old man has reportedly lost his life after an electric post fell on him.  Even though Mumbai is out of danger high alert has been issued to Pune, Nashik and Ahmednagar  which are on the path of the cyclone that is moving inside the land.

Earlier more than one lakh persons including COVID 19 patients were evacuated on the coast of Mumbai and Maharashtra as a precautionary measure.  The IMD is monitoring the further course of the storm and fishermen from Karnataka-Goa-Maharashtra-south Gujarat coasts for the next 24 hours.
