Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday announced a bunch of measures for the welfare of migrants, small vendors and others. Here are the key highlights:
Migrant workers and urban poor to have Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHC). The scheme will be launched under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana.
Free food grain supply to migrants for 2 months has been ensured. As many as 8 crore migrants will benefit from this measure. Rs. 3500 Cr will be spent on this intervention for 2 months, the FM said.
Support for returning migrants under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme ensured.
1 Nation, 1 Ration Card is touted to be a fundamental reform. National Portability of ration card regardless of the State that a person belongs to. The person can get ration in the State where he/she is working. About 67 crore beneficiaries will benefit from this.
Government to support nearly 50 lakh street vendors. Rs 5000 Cr Special Credit Facility for them announced.
