The nation went into shock as twenty three year old Nirbhaya was gang raped, tortured and killed in a moving bus. The culprits arrested were Mukesh, Pawan Gupta,Vinay Sharma, Ram Singh and another young man who was just short of his 18th birthday. Among the guilty the under 18 man was sent to juvenile prison and released after three years while Ram Singh killed himself in prison.

Three of the rest of the four convicts appealed to the Supreme Court to change its own death sentence into life imprisonment. The highest court of India has rejected their plea and has upheld the hang to death verdict. The only other legal option for the four is through a mercy petition to the President of India. The verdict has been recieved unanimously with approval by the general public who feel Nirbhaya has recieved justice atlast.
