The four convicts in the Nirbhaya rape case will be hanged to death on March 3, at 6 pm, in Tihar Jail, Delhi. The victim's mother, Asha Devi, welcomed the decision of the court and said that she was unhappy about repeated date changes.
"The Delhi court has issued a fresh date for execution of death warrant against all the four convicts," reports said on Monday. Earlier in the day, Asha Devi had expressed hope that a closure will be bought to the case.
As reported by India Today, one of the convicts is on a hunger strike in Tihar jail. As per his lawyer, he has been suffering from "acute mental illness". It may be noted that a death row convict has to be in good health at the time of hanging.
As reported by ANI, Special Public Prosecutor Rajiv Mohan has apprised the court about the current status of the 2012 Delhi gang-rape case and stated that three of the four convicts have "already exhausted their legal remedies".
