The four convicts in the gang-rape and murder of a 23-year-old physiotherapy student were hanged at Delhi's Tihar Jail earlier today. Three of the four convicts in the case moved the Delhi high court yesterday challenging the trial court order declining to stay their execution, and the Supreme Court had rejected the petition.

Lots of people came outside Tihar jail carrying the national flag and shouting "long live Nirbhaya'' and several people were seen distributing sweets after the execution of the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case.

The supreme court bench comprising Justice R Banumathi, Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice AS Bopanna started hearing the case from 2:30 am, following which the plea was dismissed and the four convicts were hanged as scheduled.
