Renowned diamond merchant Nirav Modi and his partner Mehul Choksi had got loans worth more than 13000 crores from Punjab National bank and without repaying the loans, had escaped after their fraudulent practices got exposed.
Only after he had escaped to London, the police and the government got to know of the scams he had did using fake documents to get the loan, and following this the Enforcement directorate started searching him. It was found that the fugitive businessman was in London in a new look, and following this he was arrested recently.
After Nirav Modi was produced before the court, he had sought bail, but was denied the same till March 29. However yet again a petition was filed from Nirav Modi's side saying that he Nirav Modi has elderly parents in his home and a pet dog whom he has to take care of, and hence to visit them he must be given bail. However the Westminster magistrate court dismissed the petition and refused bail.
