Diamond merchant Nirav Modi, who has been accused of taking loans from Punjab National Bank and escaping without repaying them and indulging in scams, has been searched by the Indian government in connection with the scam, but he has been found leading a happy life in London.
He had taken loans worth 13600 crores from Punjab National Bank with fraudulent documents and letter of credits, and had escaped without repaying the loans before the scam was exposed in January last year. As the Indian government is on a lookout for him, the fugitive businessman has been traced, thanks to a video that surfaced from London. He's seen in a new look with twirled moustache and a beard.
The video released by UK media has Nirav Modi sporting a 9 lakhs worth jacket made of Ostrich hide, and is seen answering no comments to every question asked by the reporter. He's reportedly leading a luxurious life in a three bedroom apartment in London with a rent of 15 lakhs a month, and with the help of National Insurance number provided by Department for Work and Pension, is still operating bank accounts online.
