How many of our childhoods is filled with memories of playing endless hours of Mario, helping the plumber hero to save the Princess Peach from King Koopa of the Mushroom Kingdom? And not to mention that jolly background music. Well, hold your breaths as Nintendo of America has disclosed news that the iconic game will be made as a movie.
Nintendo will be collaborating with Illumination Entertainment for this highly anticipated venture which is being co-produced by Shigero Miyamoto (creator of Mario) along with Chris Meledandri (owner of Illumination Entertainment).
Illumination Entertainment is known for famous films such as ‘Despicable Me’ series, ‘Minions’ and ‘The Secret Life of Pets’. It is also worth mentioning here that it is the second try to bring Mario and Luigi on the big screens after a failed attempt in 1993 live action starring Bob Hoskins and Dennis Hopper.
Universal Pictures will be handling the distribution for this film. It is expected that other details as to when the film will be out will be announced by the makers shortly.
