In yet another industrial accident, a short circuit-induced fire accident at the Left Bank Hydroelectric Power plant in Srisailam, Telangana, has created a flutter. The accident reportedly took place late Thursday night.
Early reports say that as many as 20 staff members were there in the plant at the time of the accident, half of whom could stage an escape and rescue themselves as soon as the fire broke out. At the time of writing, 9-10 people are believed to be stuck inside the plant.
Rescue operations, however, haven't been easy.
Jagadish Reddy, Minister of Energy, said, "Thick smoke engulfed in underground tunnels. This has led to difficulties in undertaking fire fighting operations. We are taking the assistance of Singareni Collieries' workers. We have seen that some fire men are falling unconscious due to smoke. As many as four panel boards were damaged."
National Disaster Response Force teams are already on job.
Minister for Agriculture Niranjan Reddy, legislator Guvvala Balraju, the District Collector, and the Superintendent of Police have been overseeing the rescue operations.
