'Nil Battey Sannata' releases this Friday, and if the promos are any indication, this Swara Bhaskar starrer is set to be a bitter sweet endearing tale in the offering. This is the kind of end product that first time director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari wanted to adopt for her debut feature film when she was set out to tell a tale for the big screen. What is all the more exciting for Ashwiny is the fact that she has made the Tamil version of the same story, Amma Kanakku, with Amala Paul).
"It is great that both these films are arriving," says Ashwiny, "I wasn't too sure if I would be able to take time out time for directing this version as well but Aanand L. Rai and Dhanush were sure that I had to make the Tamil version too."
While 'Nil Battey Sannata' has been ready for a while before Aanand came on board and collaborated with Eros to set the ball rolling, the Tamil version went on floors only in November last year.
"I have come to realize that when it comes to filmmaking, things take their own sweet time. When it has to happen, it will," says Ashwiny, "You have to invest time, be patient and nurture your story as a baby. If you can't believe in your own story, then who will?"
She is happy to telling her sensitive tale in an entertaining manner with a mother-daughter medium.
"When it comes to a mother and her daughter, the thinking would be the same regardless of the economic differences," she continues, "Be it a mother-daughter relationship or the one between siblings involving a girl or a love story for that matter, the emotions are just the same. For example, when I saw Ishqiya, I related to the character played by Vidya (Balan), regardless of the social strata she belonged to. The love that she had, it was the same love for anyone. It is only we outsiders who end up differentiating. I didn't want to do that with Nil Battey Sannata or Amma Kanakku."
We look forward to the end result now.
