Released on May 31, Suriya starrer NGK opened to mixed reviews, and the Selvaraghavan directorial was his first film release in six year, after the fantasy entertainer Irandaam Ulagam starring Arya and Anushka.

NGK is a political entertainer that also stars Sai Pallavi, Rakul Preet Singh, Bala Singh, Devaraj, Ponvannan and many others and has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The movie revolves around the central character Nandha Gopalan Kumaran and his rise in politics.

Reportedly, NGK, despite mixed reviews has opened very well at the Tamilnadu box office and has become Suriya's biggest opener, surpassing Lingusamy directorial Anjaan. The film had an opening day gross of 10.3 crores with Chennai box office contributing 1.03 crores becoming Suriya's first day 1 one crore grosser in Chennai. On day 2 , NGK grossed 1.07 crores in Chennai.
