After Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Omicron, we may be in for another variant of coronavirus. The World Health Organization has stated that the next variant of concern is likely to be more transmissible. It will escape immunity, the WHO added.

Recently, a BBC report said that a new variant of Covid-19 is already in circulation. "A subvariant of Omicron called BA.2 is rapidly supplanting the first version, known as BA.1. In an assessment published recently, the United Kingdom’s Health Security Agency said the incidence of BA.2 there doubled in seven days," BBC reported. The BA.2 sub-variant is more transmissible than the first variant.
But is the pandemic not becoming endemic due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant and widespread vaccination? The jury is still out.
A recent Mint report said that Covid-19 might eventually become something like measles (the least likely scenario), or respiratory syncytial virus (a more likely scenario), or something like influenza A virus, or even influenza B.
