New Zealand has got its first openly gay Deputy Prime Minister in Grant Robertson. In fact, he is the first openly gay person to hold such a powerful role in any country in the world. He is also the country's Finance Minister in the Jacinda Adern cabinet.
The new government has been hailed by commentators for being the world's most diverse one. Also, the new Parliament is rich in diversity. "The new parliament is the most diverse ever, and the cabinet is 40% female, 25% Maori and 15% LGBTQ+," a report says.
As per blogger and pollster David Farrar, the country that has got its first openly gay Deputy PM is not making a big deal about it. "Something I like is that the fact our Deputy PM is openly gay, is no big deal. I know it is a big deal to rainbow communities, but what I mean is that New Zealand as a whole doesn't have headlines blaring about how the Deputy PM is gay as would be the case in many other countries," he wrote.
