16.5 lakh liquor bottles sold on New Year's Eve

People in Delhi partied hard on December 31 to welcome New Year, as there was an eruption in the sale of liquor bottles, with 16.5 lakh of them being sold on New Year’s Eve, as per reports from a Delhi government official.
State officials said that the overall excise collection done on December 31 amounted to Rs 16.4 crore. “16,59,636 bottles of liquor were sold by all entities, including liquor shops, resto-bars and clubs in the national capital on December 31,” according to a state official.
The national capital previously encountered a similar situation where the Delhi government had earned Rs. 458 crore from the liquor sales in December 2017. The city government had earned an overall revenue of Rs 4,243 crore from the sale of liquor in 2017.
According to the traffic police, 509 challans were issued for drink-and-drive cases in Delhi on December 31.
