After receiving several complaints on promoting racial stereotyping, Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) has decided to rename the brand name of 'Fair & Lovely' skin cream. From now on the product will be called 'Glow & Lovely'. Also, the men's range of Fair & Lovely will be called Glow & Handsome.

"We are making our skincare portfolio more inclusive and want to lead the celebration of a more diverse portrayal of beauty," said HUL Chairman and Managing Director Sanjiv Mehta. He also added that the brand will now project a “more inclusive vision of positive beauty". The products with the new brand name will appear on shelves over the next few months.

It is needless to say, Skin-whitening creams have a huge market in India where diversity of skin tones is prevalent. Fair & Lovely was started to sell in India in the 1970s and emerged a successful brand. However, the brand's idea for promoting fairness as beautiful got widespread criticisms with the advent of time. Well, the new announcement seems to have impressed the masses.
