New GO by Jagan government may NOT affect film industry

On Sunday, in an important development that is aimed at bringing transparency in the sale of tickets, the Jaganmohan Reddy government issued a Government Order, stating that all theatres in the State have to sell cinema tickets only through a specific portal. The portal will be manned by the Andhra Pradesh State Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation.

The online ticketing system has been supported by the film industry producers. Recently, D Suresh Babu himself confirmed the same. Producers will be happy because theatres will report true numbers to the government. The government, because tax evasion can be curbed.

There are speculations that portals such as BookMyShow, Just Tickets and PayTM will have nothing to do with the sale of cinema tickets from now. That is not the case. These are not offline sales of tickets and will not be affected, a source says. They have been in the formal system. If at all, their integration with the online ticketing backed by the government is the only thing that will be done. And it won't affect the customer experience in any way.
