A 24-year-old man was arrested after he was found guilty of sending abusive messages and threatening to post pictures of a woman he met on Facebook.
The man has been identified as Sourabh Gopal, a resident of Palam village in New Delhi. The victim registered a complaint with the police when she started receiving abusive, threatening messages from an unknown account on the social media app, Facebook. The accused was traced using his IP address and then arrested. During interrogation, he revealed that the woman was his friend a while ago and that he got angry after she scolded him over a petty issue. He then decided to create a new Facebook account and use it anonymously to harass and threaten the woman in order to get his revenge. He also allegedly told her that he would make her private photographs public. "During investigation, police collected the information from Facebook and analysed it. Later, it was found that one Sourabh Gopal, who is the neighbour of the complainant, had created this fake Facebook account and was harassing her," the police reportedly stated.
A case has been registered against the man under relevant sections of the IPC and the Information Technology Act. The accused has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
