New CBFC rule is bad news for Telugu movies

It's known that, as per CBFC rules, a film has to get re-censored after sub-titles are written. Say, if a Telugu film is being released in Tamil Nadu with English or Tamil sub-titles, the movie needs to be resubmitted to the Censor board for certification. Because of this new rule, Telugu films are losing out on their market potential in TN.

Says Sridhar Pillai, a senior commentator, Sad that Telugu films in Chennai do not release any longer with sub-titles (CBFC says those films with subs should be re-censored after sub-titling, which is a cumbersome process). A market which was growing with lot of non-Telugus getting hooked killed by government interference.

In recent past, big-ticket films like 'Rangasthalam', 'Bharat Ane Nenu' and 'Geetha Govindam' have done brilliantly in TN.
