Netizens get divided over AR Rahman, Ilayaraja's politics

It has been perceived that AR Rahman backs the DMK-style politics that hinge on Dravidian identity. Recently, the legendary music director questioned BJP leader Amit Shah's insistence on Hindi as a link language. "Tamil is the link language," Rahman said.
On the other hand, Maestro Ilayaraja is believed to be pro-BJP. Recently, the legend wrote the preface of a book on BR Ambedkar. At an event, he commented that India is on the path of development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "Prime Minister Modi has also made a difference in the lives of women through the anti-Muthalak law. Ambedkar will be proud to see this," he added. Ilayaraja then said, "Ambedkar and Modi experienced poverty and oppression. Those who worked to eradicate it. Both had big dreams for India and put them into action."
Netizens, who are politically opinionated, are saying that Ilayaraja should no longer be seen as an achiever from the subaltern class now that he has praised Modi. Leftists are trolling Ilayaraja and praising Rahman. On the other hand, Right-wingers are doing the opposite.
