Bollywood is frequently criticised for its tendency to produce too many remakes. Filmmakers often adapt South Indian or foreign language films in Hindi for quick box office cash grabs and sometimes they remake old Hindi movies as well. Recently, it was announced that Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna's 1971 classic 'Anand' is about to get a remake and as expected, most fans don't think that it's a good idea.
Filmmakers Sameer Raj Sippy and Vikram Khakhar recently announced that they are going to produce a retelling of 'Anand' set in the post pandemic era. The social media reception to this announcement was largely negative as fans argued that no remake will be able to touch the quality and originality of 'Anand'.
A netizen wrote, “No one can match #Anand .The characters were amazing and all actors did such an amazing job. How will you find another Rajesh Khanna , Johnny Walker ,Lalita Pawar ,Ramesh Deo? How will anyone make and replace those soulful songs ?Please don’t spoil the film." Another one said, “#anand shouldn’t not be remade! Leave the #classics alone."
A Twitter user also expressed concern that this project might lead filmmakers to remake other Bollywood classics as well. They tweeted, "Now they are going to ruin a masterpiece like anand. what’s next, sholay? You know what i am not giving them more ideas.”
