Streaming giant Netflix has lost as many as 2 lakh subscribers in the past quarter. What is more shocking is that it is projected to lose as many as 2 million subscribers soon. If this happens, on a global scale, Netflix is going to face a tough time.
Amidst this, Netflix has reportedly blamed the practice of password-sharing among its users. Therefore, it is planning a crackdown on the same. IGN ha quoted Netflix's co-CEO Reed Hastings as saying that password sharing monetization that Netflix is aware of password sharing for some time now. However, it didn't take the matter seriously as subscription and revenue growth had been so significant up till recently. The acquisition and growth downturn is forcing Netflix to take action.
It's not known how exactly Netflix is going to crack down on the password-sharing culture.
Users, on their part, say that Netflix's content quality is dropping while its subscription costs are going up. A Twitter user named 'Stop the Cap!' said that persecuting alleged password sharers (and legit customers) with tedious 2-factor authentication, reducing stream limits further, and jacking up prices even higher is going to aggravate the crisis for Netflix.
