After the global appeal of its dystopian series, Squid Game, Netflix is all set to put a real-time challenge in "Squid Game: The Challenge." Along the lines of fictional games pictured in one of the most popular shows on Netflix, this reality series brings about 456 participants from around the world competing for a mega cash prize like no other at $4.56 million. Players will face some recreated challenges inspired by the original show, but with surprising new twists and more.
One of the contestants can be heard saying, "People do a whole lot worse for a whole lot less than $4.56 million dollars." The original Squid Game series that went on to become Netflix's biggest show ever followed the story of a divorced father and gambler who gets into a secret competition involving 456 participants. Losers in this survival game are executed after each round until there is only one victor left to snatch the jackpot money. A second season of the series has already been announced.
Brandon Riegg, Netflix Vice President of Unscripted and Documentary Series, appreciated director Hwang Dong-hyuk for delivering an incredibly captivating story with iconic imagery in the original Squid Game series. Now they are turning this fictional world into reality through massive competition and social experimentation. The new reality show promises 456 real-world contestants an unpredictable journey as they manoeuvre through the biggest competition series ever filled with tension, twists, and the largest cash prize at the end.
The series comes from Studio Lambert and The Garden, co-produced by Stephen Lambert, Tim Harcourt, and Toni Ireland of Studio Lambert, alongside John Hay, Nicola Hill, and Nicola Brown of The Garden.
