Netflix, Hotstar etc to implement self-censorship
Send us your feedback to audioarticles@vaarta.com
Netflix, Hotstar, Voot, Zee5, ALTBalaji, Arre, SonyLIV and Eros Now, the well-known OTT platforms, have voluntarily agreed to regulate themselves as part of a self-censorship initiative by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI). It may be noted that Amazon Prime has not submitted itself to the voluntary code.
The above-mentioned online platforms, who are signatories to the self-censorship deal, are barred from showing any content that has been or will be banned by Indian courts. Offending religious sentiments, disrespecting the national emblem/flag, encouraging terrorism, promoting violence against the Indian state, depicting children in sexual acts, etc are a strict no-no.
The code respects the objectives of protecting consumer interests while also keeping intact the creativity of content providers.
