The mysterious disappearance of a 22-year-old software engineer from Netflix, reported to have entered an Uber, mystified his family and friends in California, as revealed by several online news media. The man is Yohanes Kidane, a resident of San Jose. He was last seen leaving his apartment on August 14 around 7:15 p.m. local time. According to him, he got into a car with Uber stickers, wearing grey sweatpants, a black hoodie, and black shoes. He also told colleagues that he was heading to San Francisco to meet up with some friends.
Yosief, Kidane's brother, said security footage showed Yohanes leaving the building where he lived and getting into a black Toyota Camry. He was only two months into his job as a Netflix software engineer and had moved to the Bay Area after graduating from Cornell University in May.
Yohanes' phone, backpack, and wallet were found near the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Centre in San Francisco. His backpack was found closer to the bridge next morning with two laptops inside it. Most of the night on August 14th, his location was tracked on the Golden Gate Bridge.
Kidane's mother, Mehret Hana Beyene, expressed her anguish and prayers for his return, describing him as a loving person with a bright future ahead of him. A friends and family fundraiser page has been set up on GoFundMe to cover the costs of their search efforts. The crowdfunding page supports the family of Yohanes as they tirelessly work in the effort to find him and bring him home again.
