We have heard of filmmakers setting aside huge budgets on exotic locations, high octane action sequences or international crew, but here is a film that set aside a huge amount of their production budget on research.

Neerja, being a biopic and that too of a heroic 23 year old girl who won Bravery awards from India, Pakistan and US for her heroic act which saved the life of 359 passenger on board a hijacked flight in 1986 in Karachi, the makers were sure that they want to portray all events in her life just like they took place. So, there was a huge budget that was set aside for it. To find moments in Neerja's life before the hijack, during the Hijack and post it.

The makers wanted to go deeper than what was shown in the news at that time. So the budget was used to research on the four countries involved India, Pakistan, USA and Libya. The makers also reached out to a lot of the survivors aboard the ill fated Pan Am Flight 73 to get a first hand narration of what they witnessed on that plane. The purpose of the makers was to make the film real, honest and based on the true picture.

Directed by Ram Madhvani under the banner of Fox Star India and Bling Unplugged, 'Neerja' is all set to release on 19th February, 2016.
