It has been reported that the family of the renowned music composer MS Baburaj is considering taking legal action against those who are using his songs in movies without obtaining prior permission. A legal notice has been sent to filmmaker Aashiq Abu and composer Bijibal by Baburaj’s daughter, as they have used the late composer’s songs in ‘Neelavelicham’ without permission. In this regard, a complaint has also been lodged with Cultural Minister Saji Cheriyan.
According to the complaint, the remix versions of Baburaj’s songs in the movie have been made in a manner that destroys the original versions' uniqueness and essence.
It may be remembered that the makers of Neelavelicham unveiled the third single 'Thamasamenthe Varuvan' from the film on March 3, which happened to be the 94th birthday of the legendary composer MS Baburaj. The song was a reprise version of the popular song of the same name from the 1964-released classic, Bhargavi Nilayam. While Baburaj had composed the original song, it was sung by KJ Yesudas.
Directed by Aashiq Abu, 'Neelavelicham' is an adaptation of the legendary writer Vaikkom Muhammed Basheer's short story of the same title, featuring lead roles played by Tovino Thomas, Rima Kallingal, Shine Tom Chacko and Roshan Mathew. Neelavelicham, which is set to release on April 21, features a screenplay based on Vaikom Muhammad Basheer's short story of the same name. In addition to this, Hrishikesh Bhaskaran has contributed to the screenplay, while the film's technical team comprises cinematographer Gireesh Gangadharan, composers Bijibal and Rex Vijayan, and editor Saiju Sreedharan. Aashiq Abu and Rima Kallingal are producing the film.
