Aashiq Abu's directorial 'Neelavelicham', which is based on Vaikom Muhammad Basheer's short story of the same name was previously adapted for the screen by A Vincent and was titled 'Bhargavi Nilayam'. Released in 1964, 'Bhargavi Nilayam' starred Madhu, Vijaya Nirmala, Prem Nazir, and PJ Antony in lead roles, and is considered the first horror film in Malayalam cinema. The makers had earlier released three songs from the upcoming film, which were well received by audiences.

Rima Kallingal, who plays the lead role of Bhargavi, recently shared that 'Neelavelicham' is Aashiq Abu's dream project, and they worked on it for seven months with an amazing team. She added that the film is a tribute to the original story, and the team has made sure to respect what the masters have done with it.
