"Iska music HIT hoga" - that's what one said after watching the song promo of N3 for the first time when it was screened during 'Salaam Namaste'. As one eagerly waited for the music of this next from Yash Raj Films, its peppy promos on screens ensured that this is yet another teeny-weeny love story in the making. And the lovers are 'Neal' [Uday Chopra] n 'Nikki' [Tanisha], and together they are known as N3. Directed by Arjun Sablok, N3 has music by Salim Sulaiman who created a 'dhamaal' earlier this year with 'Kaal'. Anvita Dutt Guptan, Irshad Kamil and Asif Ali Beg come up with lyrics for the 6 tracks in the flick.
1) 'Neal `n' Nikki' [Singers: Kay Kay, Shweta Padit, lyrics: Anvita Dutt Guptan]
Now is that Kay Kay rendering the song? Because all this while one felt that it is Shaan who has crooned the naughty looking title song that brings everything around it alive. But when the album cover credits the number to Kay Kay, you tend to believe it. Kudos to him as after being famous for singing intense tracks, he seems to be pretty chilled out while singing a highly youthful and energetic track.
Shweta Pandit, who sings 4 tracks in the album, is highly impressive as well as she gets all girlish and bubbly and projects the personality of a 'full-of-life' girl quite well! Newcomer Anvita Dutt Guptan's lyrics are innovative and contemporary and go down well with the 'Kool' generation of today. Witty and charming, the song has been composed with aplomb by the composer duo Salim Sulaiman. This is a definite hit in the making.
Remix 'N 'n' N - The Naughty Mix' comes later and ends the album on an even higher note. Remixed by Sulaiman Merchant, John Stewart & Satya Hinduja, just watch out for the guitar strings that give the song a 80s feel. An overhauled version of the original with a distinctive feel around it, it continues to be fun and cool!
2) Halla Re [Singers: Shweta Pandit, Salim Merchant, Robert `Bob' Omulo, lyrics: Irshad Kamil]
After a chilling title song comes a 'rock-the-dance-floor' track 'Halla Re' that for sure creates a 'halla re'! A song that has been sung prominently by Shweta Pandit with rap by Robert `Bob' Omulo and some chipping in by Salim Merchant, it is a fusion qawalli that reminds of 'Tumse Milke Dil Ka Hai' [Main Hoon Naa]. Shweta Pandit is the winner for the song as she remarkably changes her singing style when compared with the title song. While in the latter she was all cute, coy and girlish, she turns into a girl with an attitude with 'Halla Re'. On a regular day, this was a song tailor-made for Sunidhi Chauhan but the faith shown in Shweta by the makers behind the song is completely justified. A song with a good pace and rhythm, this one too adds on one more reason to go for N3.
3) I'm In Love [Singers: Sonu Nigam, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Clinton, Dominique Cerejo, lyrics: Anvita Dutt Guptan]
On reading the lyrics 'I'm In Love', one tends to believe that this is an English track, but this is not the case as this turns out to be a mushy 'pyaar-mohabbat' song with just the realization of love being expressed as 'I'm In love'. A track that you may have heard in numerous Yash Raj movies, it is of the kinds that are designed to be choreographed in Swiss Alps/'sarson-ke-khet' and the works. But trust today's breed of film makers to try doing it differently this time around! An extremely soothing number that would have made a SRK jump to have the song picturised on him, it is sung with complete heart'n'soul by Sonu Nigam and Mahalaxmi Iyer with good support from Clinton, Dominique Cerejo who sing the brief English portions for the background.
4) I Just Wanna Spend My Life With You [Singers: Clinton, Dominique Cerejo, lyrics: Asif Ali Beg]
Clinton and Dominique Cerejo do g
