Trailer Review: Nawab

The trailer for Mani Ratnam's 'Nawab' was unveiled on Saturday by Akkineni Nagarjuna.  At more than 140 seconds, it's long and introduces its many characters with earnestness.

Bhupathi Reddy (Prakash Raj) could be anything between a mafia don to Robin Hood.  Varada (Aravind Swamy), Thyagu (Arun Vijay), and Rudra (Simbu) are his sons, different from each other in their own right.  Rudra seems to be a rebel, a trigger-happy enfant terrible.  Who is good, bad and grey?  Why does Jyothika's character say there could be a war?  Why does Varada ask a character to not believe in anybody?

The questions bring us to Rasool (Vijay Sethupathy), a police officer on a secret mission, it seems.

There is intrigue, there is romance, and, above all, there could be an internecine family feud.

Aditi Rao Hydari is seen as a journo.  The film also stars Thiagarajan, Jaya Sudha, Aishwarya Rajesh, Dayana Erappa, Mansoor Ali Khan and Siva Ananth (who has co-written the movie with Mani).

AR Rahman's music is not distinct in the trailer.  Santosh Sivan's visuals and Sreekar Prasad's edits are nice.  Dialogues are by Kiran and lyrics are by Sirivennela Sitaramasastry.

The drama will hit the screens this September.
