In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old man has been accused of raping a 40-year-old COVID-19 positive woman at a quarantine centre in Navi Mumbai's Panvel on Thursday night.
Both the accused and the victim were apparently taken into the quarantine centre at Panvel as suspects of COVID-19 as they showed symptoms of the infection. Their swab samples were collected and the test results of the woman, who was admitted to the centre three days ago, came back positive. The accused was admitted to the centre yesterday and his test results are yet to come.
An FIR has been registered against the man under section 354 (molestation) and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code at the Navi Mumbai police station on Friday. The police will reportedly decide their course of action against the accused once the test results come back. Further updates on the case are awaited.
