Naseer Must Direct Again

  • IndiaGlitz, [Saturday,July 22 2006]

There was this recent tabloid controversy where Naseeruddin Shah allegedly slapped the producer (Shabbir Boxwala) of his debut directorial venture ‘Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota’. It was nixed in the bud when Shabbir organized a huge birthday bash for Naseer where the star cast of YHTKH and many of Shah’s friends came together for a hearty time. Well, Naseer is a genius of an actor who has done India proud globally.

But with so many controversies surrounding the film and with limited promotions, I had very few expectations as I went to see it for my routine review work. Half an hour into the film, and I was getting interested. Big time.

The details are saved for the review, so do check that out. But here I must add that even though Naseer may be accused of promoting nepotism (He has wife Ratna Pathak and son Imad Shah in important roles), but both his wife and son have given stunning performances.

In fact after these acts, they deserve special treatment from other makers as both are special performers. Naseer also didn’t do a Raj Kapoor or a Dev Anand by casting himself in his directorial venture. After watching the compelling climax, I feel like saying….Naseer Bhai….Give Direction a chance….Again…We deserve intelligent cinema. Don’t we!
