Nankam Pirai Review

A low profile movie grabbed the attention of many, very late in 2012. Yup, "Ambuli 3D" was the stereographic movie. Bram Stoker's "Dracula" has brought about a phenomenal change not just in Hollywood but to the entire planet. There were numerous instances of movies inspired from this Horror movie and "Nangaam Pirai 3D" falls in the same line. The film releases today simultaneously in Malayalam as "Dracula" and Director Vinayan is gung ho about his venture. Cinematography by Satish of Ambuli 3D fame is a big add on. The cast has a whale of actors : The lead actors Sudheer Sukumaran, Monal Gajjar, Shraddha Das, Prabhu, Aryan, Priyan Nambiar, Nassar, Krishna and Sana Oberoi. The film has also been shot in lush locations across Transylvania in Romania, Goa, Hyderabad and Kerala.

The Haunted story:

As said, an all inspired flick from "Dracula", this is more of an Indian version. Newly wed pair of Roy and Priya celebrate their honeymoon at Transylvania. Roy gets intimidated by the fortress of Dracula and predictably the spirit drives inside Roy. In search of his long lost love he gets on a killing spree and starts with his wife. Thereby the legendary Dracula returns with a local connect. To make it look more Indian, instead of the traditional werewolves, the Count of Transylvania has a pack of Dogs. Manobala and Ganga Karupu play the comedians in this horror movie, totally a misplaced sector by the director. The rest of the movie is about Dracula's hunt for blood. A Dracula movie is sure to have a beast slayer similar to Van Helsing essayed by Prabhu and of course the priest played by Nassar.

The Good `n' Bad bites:

To start with the Good one's, the Director has tried his level best to replicate the salvaging ruthless Dracula character and that needs to be appreciated. Hero Sudeer is huge and apt for the role, looks all menacing and gives us the creeps. The other Hero Aryan looks fittingly equivalent to bring the wrath on Dracula. Most of the ladies in the movies, though appear to play a character role, only add much glamor quotient similar to Hollywood standards, but doesn't work well here. The comedy track is a torment to the eyes and ears, only adding irritation to the already hiccupped screenplay. For those who had high intentions of having a 3D exhibition of haunting, well you are in for a dismayed display. The CGI and visual effects hardly make you enjoy, rather it's a combo of uselessness considering how the level of Indian cinema has become. Music by Babith is quite average with hefty roadblocks, however BGM is apt to the situations and screenplay. Thanks to the irate 3D effects of the movie, camerawork by Satish go unnoticed. Another big letdown is the dubbing, which gives you a Malayalam sensation at certain parts of the movie, considering the comedy part being jarred by our Tamil Actors. On a whole Bram Stoker's Dracula being the main theme of the movie doesn't really captivate you much and hiccups all through the plot. However the director's intention and honest storyline is the only effective part.
