Namitha in a statement has said that she has refused an offer made by the Sri Lankan government to perform at the IIFA ceremony in Colombo.

In the statement Namitha has said "I refused the invitation from IIFA to attend the function in Colombo. How can I attend even after knowing the existing problem? It is the Tamil people who made me what I am today. I will never do anything that may hurt the sentiments of Tamil people who are the reason for my living today".

It may be noted that the south Indian film industry has called the Indian film industry to boycott the function in Colombo to show solidarity with the Tamils.
